DC Comics Trade Paperback Cover Art, TEEN TITANS.
I depicted Superman's DNA helix half as illuminated, to convey that he obviously possesses a genetic structure FAR BEYOND THOSE OF MORTAL MEN!
The morphing together of his face with Lex Luthor's represents the combined DNA of these two adversaries as the genetic make-up of the new Superboy.
Superman is heroically lit from above, while villainous Luthor is underlit.
The blocky boxes atop the page are inspired by the little markers used on DNA testing sheets, determining alleles or character traits.
And Changeling appears here in velociraptor form to evoke the image of the genetically constructed dinosaurs of JURASSIC PARK. Gar is such a wise-guy!
I like to work in a lot of subtle imagery, clues, and inside jokes whenever I get a chance in my illustrations. Makes it more fun for me, and for those observant ones who enjoy staring at drawings for long periods.
