• X-MEN '97: NATHAN SUMMERS
Marvel Animation Character Design, X-MEN '97, Nathan Summers/Young Cable.
Media: Digital Art.
In Season 2, Nathan Summers is now a boy on his way to becoming a man. During this assignment, the character design went through relatively few changes as I adapted him from the comic book canon. They decided to nix the little skull-cap at one point, and the skunk-stripe in his hair switched sides. Other than these minor details, my adapted design remained intact. I was very impressed by the acting in the animation as extrapolated from the storyboards, as well as the superb voice characterization by Michael Johnston. And I was quite thrilled by the close-up shot of Nathan's cybernetic hand in one episode, as ably assisted by Lead Character Designer Amelia Vidal. It reminded me of the brilliance of the classic 1980s animated series SILVERHAWKS, from Rankin/Bass studios.
