WB Animation Character Design, YOUNG JUSTICE, Lori Lemaris.
In the comics, Lori Lemaris was originally an old flame of college student Clark Kent. But she briefly appears, redesigned, in the YOUNG JUSTICE episode, "Downtime" (though she is not directly named in the episode). Lori is among the Atlantean students learning magic at Mera's undersea school.
The direction was to design Lori as a young girl, and I endeavored to avoid making her look too much like Disney's Ariel, The Little Mermaid. I also steered away from typical mermaid design, where the tail fin is angled like a cetacean, and shaped primarily like a chevron. I gave her a truer fishtail, so she must swim using a sideways tail motion instead of a dolphin kick. I also tried to keep nearly everything she is wearing as recognizably aquatic as possible. For instance, her hair is banded with green kelp. Her necklace, vambraces, pauldrons, and the tiara atop her head are fashioned from shells and coral.
