YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION: LUTHOR PAINTING

WB Animation Character Design, YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION, Lex Luthor Painting.

Of all the portrait images I rendered for the YJ show, this one turned out to be the most difficult due to the tighter time frame, and my own learning curve. The assignment seemed like an afterthought, as it was added to my slate late in the game. After some quick discussion, the episode's director sketched out a rough idea of what he wanted, and I took it from there, careful to adhere to his concept before going a few extra miles on the background elements. It was important to depict Luthor as an egotist, reminiscent of Napoleon. He poses near a globe as if he is master of the world. I used the long curving lines of the bound drapes to direct the viewer's eye toward Luthor. The large heavy rope/cords helped to subtly suggest Luthor's obsession with cold restraint, and a manipulative control over others. These colors are my own, and do not reflect the final screen version.
