ATROCITUS
WB Animation Character/Creature Design, GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD KNIGHTS, Atrocitus.
For the segment entitled "Abin Sur," this is the original design interpretation for Atrocitus before it was ultimately tweaked for the screen version. Initially, the direction was to re-imagine the DC Comics version of the villainous character, pushing it more alien. Later, the decision was made to scale back just a bit, and Atrocitus was given more normal feet. My guess is this was done to facilitate the animation process. In any event, I'm presenting my original design here.
Here's a character sheet for Atrocitus, showing the spike appendages that were supposed to sprout from his back. Once these long appendages extend, Atrocitus' walk cycle changes to that of an insect on vertical surfaces, or a quadruped on level ground.
