YJST: PHANTOMS - LORI LEMARIS Skin Icons Aglow

WB Animation Character Design, YOUNG JUSTICE: PHANTOMS, General Lori Lemaris.
Media: Digital art.

In the Season Four episode entitled, "Nautical Twilight," Lori Lemaris returns, now a mature dignitary, a general from Tritonis. In creating a new design for this character, I was careful to reference the original from Season One, aging her up. I gave her figure more curves, while adding some muscle mass more befitting what I presumed to be a serious military career, with plenty of physical training to augment her magical abilities. Several hairstyle and outfit concepts were submitted, with the producers steering away from anything with flowing elements for hair or garments, since these would require more animation. For Lori's magical skin icons (elaborate tattoos which adepts can render invisible until the body art glows freely and radiantly during magical activity), I suggested a sea serpent as her theme.
For the costume color selections, it's clear that they opted for as much continuity as possible with Lori's original screen appearance in the interests of easy identification. But here, with my own personal choices long after the fact, I wanted to go for a color scheme better reflecting Lori's military position. I feel that these colors translate better to a uniform worn by many, and they are less flashy, less typically feminine. And as a bonus tribute, I deliberately borrowed Lori's uniform colors from the camouflage suit worn by the Arthur Curry Aquaman in the now-classic DC Comics mini-series from 1986.
