Marvel Animation Character Design, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, Morbius Mouth Chart.
I figured this may be of interest to both the animation student, and the animation enthusiast alike. Mouth charts can sometimes be a bit of a boring chore to create, but they are nonetheless a necessary part of the job. Of course, animation for television is much more limited than animation for cinema, so all that is required are a few of the most basic mouth expressions, enough to emulate common vowel sounds. Sometimes an extreme mouth expression is included to simulate a shout or a scream. This is just a rough guide. The rest is left to the actual animators. Oddly, productions often shy away from including an "F" mouth expression mainly because it looks funny as a still image, and it instantly conjures thoughts of the "f" word.
Mouth charts are trickiest when creating them for talking beasts and monsters. This is why I selected these two versions of the Morbius character as possible teaching examples.
